Practice Development Lawyer

This role will support the UK wide team. You will cover a wide range of UK and EU competition matters, as well as having the responsibility to spearhead the development of a comprehensive knowledge hub that consolidates previous work and creates actionable precedents and know-how for the team. This role would ideally suit an existing competition PDL or a Senior competition lawyer looking to transition into a demanding PDL role.
Duties & Responsibilities
Knowledge Hub Development
- Lead the creation and maintenance of a centralized knowledge hub for the UK Competition team.
- Gather, organize, and structure relevant advice, notifications, pleadings, submissions, training materials, case studies, templates, and other resources to enhance the team's efficiency and effectiveness.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify key areas for knowledge development and resource creation.
Precedent Creation
- Develop high-quality, user-friendly precedents, manuals and templates tailored to various aspects of competition law, including merger control, foreign investment review and NSIA, litigation, subsidy control/State Aid, competition compliance, and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure that all precedents, manuals and know-how are kept up-to-date with the latest legal developments and best practices.
Training and Support
- Provide training and support to team members on the use of the knowledge hub and precedents to facilitate their work processes.
- Offer guidance on legal research techniques, case analysis, and effective utilization of resources.
Marketing
- Initiate and prepare timely, relevant, well-presented, succinct and pragmatic alerts for clients and contacts on relevant developments in competition law and practice.
- Devise and prepare training materials and other presentations for clients on competition related issues.
Legal Research and Analysis
- Conduct in-depth legal research on competition law matters to support ongoing client projects and internal initiatives.
- Monitor and analyze case law, decisional practice, legislative updates, and regulatory changes to keep the team and our clients informed of relevant developments.
Continuous Improvement
- Proactively identify opportunities to enhance the knowledge hub, precedents and client-facing materials based on changes in competition law and practice and/or feedback from team members.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to optimize knowledge management processes.
Required experience, skills, and attributes
- Qualified in either England and Wales or Scotland, ideally with King's College EU Competition Law post-graduate Diploma.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in Competition Law, including economic regulation.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and the confidence to present well in a multi-cultural environment.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills.
- Able to present information concisely, clearly and professionally, including in diagrams and other visual forms.
- Self-starter who demonstrates a proactive and positive attitude to their work.
- Flexible and adaptable, for example relishing new legal and practice developments and changes.
