We are looking for a business oriented Legal Counsel with international legal experience. The position is based in Budapest, but this is a European role that will support on international contracts and in different jurisdictions. You will be part of a small European legal team (10 legal professionals), in a globally large organization. Your colleagues are based in different countries in Europe and your reporting manager is located between Spain and the UK. At NEC you work as a team towards common targets and team members complement each other to produce the best possible result for NEC.
As Legal Counsel, you will be handling complex situations and transactions with limited supervision, which will require you to have a structured approach to work, as well as being flexible. It is important to be proactive, self-motivated and to take ownership for the work tasks. Since Europe is your work arena, it is key that you work effectively as virtual, but also being able to travel.
It is a plus if you have experience and knowledge in German law, alternatively UK or Nordic countries.
Key Responsibilities
- To draft, review, negotiate and close all types of technology and telecom infrastructure agreements, working in conjunction with the relevant business managers in each part of the company’s business throughout Europe, specially UK, Germany, Nordic countries, Spain, Italy, France, Eastern Europe and Portugal;
- To identify and assess legal risk for non-standard contracts and advise the business accordingly;
- To provide broad, operational legal support and risk assessment to each part of the business;
- Objective analysis of risks with ability and confidence to provide solutions quickly to satisfy legal and business requirements;
- Effectively develop and implement legal, Compliance and governance policies throughout the company;
- To provide legal advice to queries on an as-needs’ basis;
- To assist in developing and drafting standard contract precedents and developing know-how;
- To provide training to the business teams on Legal and Compliance matters and establish strong working relationships with the business units and other legal counsel;
- To pro-actively identify, interpret, apply and advise on relevant local laws (to the extent qualified although expected to also develop legal knowledge of other jurisdictions as the case may be).
Skills & Experience
- LLB, LLM or University degree plus CPE (if UK) or equivalent if other jurisdiction;
- Practising Certificate/Barrister or “juriste” equivalent in Member State or jurisdiction;
- Ideally you have experience from both private practice and Chambers, with some in-house experience;
- 7 years or more of International legal experience providing support on international contracts and different jurisdictions;
- Compliance experience on Compliance Frameworks, ABC and/or Competition is desirable;
- Solid experience in the resolution of business issues (in the context of contract negotiation) and drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts, ideally in a ICT environment in multiple jurisdictions;
- Familiar and comfortable with technology contracts and associated issues with interest in the products and solutions offered;
- Experience with public and private sector contracts;
- Excellent technical legal knowledge and/or ability to assimilate new or unknown technology by interaction with the business;
- Excellent communication skills and fluent in English. It is a plus if you have skills in German as well.
