Facebook is seeking a talented, self-motivated, and experienced legal professional that is excited by taking on and leading complex privacy projects, thrives in a fast-paced environment and can seamlessly drive success working with multiple cross-functional stakeholders to accomplish bold things. The role is broad and, among other things, involves advising internal clients such as business and data protection compliance teams (including the Office of the Data Protection Officer) on various legal risks and obligations under European data protection laws and driving cross-functional initiatives across the business involving a variety of complex legal and/or regulatory issues. The successful candidate thrives in an ambiguous, cross-functional environment where they are able to work with multiple stakeholders to understand different perspectives and provide discussion frameworks to enable trade-offs and decisions.

This is a full-time position located in Dublin, Ireland.

Director & Associate General Counsel – Data Protection Responsibilities

  • In coordination with cross-functional teams, participate in developing and managing relationships with regulators, including supporting responding to regulatory inquiries and investigations, and developing and maintaining internal compliance and governance programs.
  • Drive high-profile and high-impact projects involving data protection analysis and compliance with stakeholders. across Facebook's business, policy, legal, communications, security, and other departments
  • Identifying and prioritising risks, exercising strong judgment and ensuring rapid escalation to relevant decision makers with close integration with relevant stakeholders.
  • Identifying trends and themes on recurring issues, and helping to advise on solutions to reduce repetition and duplication.
  • Partner closely with cross-functional teams, participate in developing and managing relationships with regulators, responding to regulatory inquiries and investigations, and developing and maintaining internal compliance programs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience in European data protection laws and practices - preferably in a technology context
  • Experience navigating a complex and fast paced business environment with confidence and professionalism
  • Demonstrated strategic leadership and experience in working across multiple functions to articulate, coordinate and execute on agreed strategies
  • Proven communication skills, experience conveying complex and nuanced information and concisely – including experience presenting to executive management, the board of directors and relevant committees
  • Extensive interpersonal skills and proven ability to build strong cross functional relationships based on trust and respect

Preferred Qualifications

  • 12 years PQE legal experience
  • Knowledge of business models, products and platforms in the social media space
  • Experience interacting with regulatory and/or government agencies
