The role will involve: (i) providing legal support to the global business of the Digital Wallets division of Paysafe (except North America) and (ii) on-going legal support to the operations in Bulgaria. The successful candidate will collaborate with individuals at all levels throughout all parts of the business and across all regions.
This position will report to the Senior Legal Counsel for Digital Wallets who is based in Sofia, and will be part of a multi-national team spread across various jurisdictions, including two further lawyers based in Sofia and London.
Essential Duties:
- Provide general, commercial legal and regulatory advice to FCA and CBI regulated electronic money businesses globally (except North America).
- Provide general legal advice to the operations office of Paysafe in Bulgaria of circa. 1,300 employees, including general corporate work, employment and commercial legal work.
- Draft and negotiate commercial agreements (including procurement ones) and non-disclosure agreements with existing and potential customers and suppliers, ensuring that all agreements reflect the approved business case and the standard policies and procedures of the organisation.
- Provide advice to the business teams on the applicable legal and regulatory framework in the relevant territories (with focus on payment network and payment processing deals).
- Advise the business on the legal aspects of new product development and new product delivery channels.
- Instruct and manage external legal counsel globally.
- Undertake a range of research projects to include: regulatory research, contractual matters, marketing terms and conditions, regional data protection and privacy laws.
- Address any other general or ad-hoc commercial legal queries from internal business stakeholders.
- Assisting with the know-how, professional development and knowledge management needs of the Legal Department.
- Assist in the development of standard departmental procedures designed to facilitate each of the identified responsibilities, while maintaining appropriate internal controls and involving all appropriate departments and areas of responsibility.
Your Profile:
- Legal qualification in a EU Member State and full legal capacity before the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Bulgaria.
- 3+ years post-qualification experience.
- Excellent command of English language; command of another language may also be an advantage.
- Direct experience in the following areas is required: financial services (preferably fintech or payment processing), drafting and negotiation of commercial agreements of varying complexity, legal research in new areas of law, Bulgarian employment, commercial and corporate law.
- Prior knowledge in the following areas is desirable: financial services regulations, gambling regulations, understanding of Card Scheme regulations, data protection and privacy, intellectual property.
- Excellent presentation and negotiation skills – able to influence and persuade in decision making processes both internally and externally.
- Commercial awareness and strong business acumen – must be able to work with key business partners to achieve the commercial objectives of the business and to deliver legal advice in the appropriate commercial context.
- Ability to work independently as part of a collegiate team, within company guidelines and department policies.
- Demonstrated ability to draft clear, professional and legally robust correspondence, contractual documentation, policies and other documentation as required, with appropriate form and style.
- First class interpersonal skills – able to build and maintain good relationships both internally and externally at all levels.
- Excellent organizational skills – able to handle multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Willingness to travel as required.
- Computer literate – able to use Microsoft suite of packages - Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
