In this role, you will support the expansion of Stripe services across the EMEA region, including new products and new geographic markets. The ideal candidate is passionate about Stripe’s mission of helping businesses grow and thrive.
We’re looking for a team player with a sense of humour, who enjoys solving complex problems and has the skills and aptitude for innovative work within a high-performing in-house legal team.
You will:
- Develop and execute regulatory strategy, advise on a wide range of regulatory issues, and manage regulatory risk across the EEA and various international jurisdictions within EMEA;
- Help Stripe expand into new markets across the EMEA region by navigating the respective local regulatory frameworks, advising on regulatory market entry strategy and obtaining any regulatory approvals;
- Counsel Stripe’s business on the application of payment and other regulations, helping us to manage regulatory risk while enabling Stripe to create products and expand internationally in a way that meets our obligations, as well as the needs of our customers;
- Actively collaborate with a wide variety of teams at Stripe, including product, engineering, sales, partnerships, compliance, and policy, on a range of issues related to market expansion, regulatory compliance, product development and commercialization;
- Represent Stripe on a variety of topics before regulators, banking partners, and other external audiences, and advise on our regulatory positions;
- Contribute to licensing and prudential matters and the maintenance of our core regulatory programs;
- Be a proactive partner and trusted advisor to cross-functional teams in EMEA.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Excellent academic background and credentials;
- Experience managing regulatory and legal matters across Europe;
- Minimum 8+ years experience practicing as a qualified lawyer, with regulatory experience — payments, money movement and crypto experience is particularly advantageous;
- Experience working in a major financial institution, fintech or technology company, financial services regulatory authority, or relevant experience within a major law firm;
- A passion for technology and ability to understand complex business models and product use cases quickly;
- Excellent judgment, ability to navigate ambiguity and evolving regulatory spaces, and provide practical, solutions-oriented legal advice;
- Terrific communication skills (written and verbal), with an ability to make complex regulatory concepts clear to business teams, engineers, lawyers, and regulators;
- Experience managing a team would be advantageous;
- Be humble and curious about an evolving industry.
