Job Description:

Cloudera is looking for an in-house counsel to join the legal team in the EMEA region. The role is responsible for providing legal advice, expertise and support in the area of contracts of all types with a particular focus on Cloudera’s direct customer sales for France. The position will also occasionally provide support for other contracting areas, like purchasing, Marketing, etc. Another focus will be on deal support within our partner ecosystem, including OEMs, MSPs, reseller partners and the like. Some limited travel to London and HQ (California) may be required. The position reports to the Legal Director, EMEA, based in London.

Essential Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Working closely with others in the cross-functional teams and with customers and channel partners to provide contracting expertise to negotiate business agreements for new and follow-on business;
  • Ensuring compliance within the agreed terms to company policies and guidelines;
  • Preparing contract paperwork; advising management of contractual rights and obligations; mitigating contractual and channel partner program risks; compiling and analyzing data; maintaining historical information;
  • Balancing competing priorities of constituencies as compared to business needs and using astute judgment as to when to seek executive-level direction.

Qualifications:

  • Law degree required with 5+ years PQE and relevant experience in the IT industry;
  • Knowledge of legal issues affecting software companies globally is required, such as data privacy issues, cloud and SaaS, and IP protection. Knowledge of open-source issues is also a plus;
  • Requires excellent drafting, analytical and negotiation skills;
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills and requisite personal computer skills;
  • Strong internal/external customer service skills;
  • Superior communication skills;
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment;
  • Experience negotiating contracts in multiple jurisdictions is a plus;
  • Must be fluent in English and French, fluency in other European languages (particularly Italian) is a plus.
