Meta seeks a highly motivated and experienced team player to act as Data Protection Counsel on Meta’s Data Protection team.

This is an outstanding opportunity for any candidate who wants to work on some of today’s toughest legal challenges in this developing area of law.

The successful candidate will have deep experience in this field of law and be able apply complex and evolving legal frameworks to new and innovative products and services.

The role will focus on providing data protection legal advice and solutions to identify and mitigate legal risk in all phases of business operations, with a particular focus on governance and accountability, intragroup data sharing and incident response.

The role requires good judgment, a strong work ethic and a keen interest in learning about new technologies and areas of the law. This is a great opportunity for an ambitious lawyer to join a growing legal team and to work on cutting-edge issues in a fast-paced, fun environment.

Responsibilities

  • Analyse data-related projects and initiatives to provide practical legal advice across multiple jurisdictions;
  • Advice on complex legal issues, including personal data breaches and international data transfers;
  • Provide support to compliance and business teams on data protection laws and accountability and governance requirements;
  • Contribute to and support data protection training and compliance programs;
  • Monitor and respond to developments in privacy and information security (i.e. new laws, regulations, important judgements, regulatory guidance, etc.).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to assess legal, practical and business risks quickly and accurately, as well as thrive in a fast-paced environment and make sound judgments under tight deadlines;
  • Ability to find practical and creative solutions and provide concise and business-focused legal advice;
  • Excellent problem-solving, written and oral communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Keen interest in data protection and technology;
  • Absolute commitment to professionalism and collegiality;
  • Solicitor or barrister (qualified to practice in at least one European jurisdiction);
  • Minimum 5 years experience relevant data protection experience, including at a law firm or prior in-house experience (applicable litigation, commercial law or regulatory experience will be considered);
  • In-depth knowledge of legal issues in the area of the operation of online social media platforms including an excellent understanding of data protection law;
  • Strong multi-tasking, attention to detail and organisational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience advising clients on risk assessments and mitigations across technology products;
  • Experience working within a global legal team;
  • Prior experience working with technology companies.
