For the expansion of our EMEA team, argenx is looking for a Director of Legal, to support the rapid growth needed for successful commercialization. The role will focus on Germany and the broader DACH region but will also support other geographies and will functional responsibilities across the EMEA and subject matter expertise that is relevant for the company globally. The role will report into the Head of Legal and Compliance, EMEA.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
The Director of Legal will be a key member of the Legal and Compliance team, the EMEA team as well as of the DACH regional team and the other teams it will work with. This role serves as a close business partner and facilitator of the business activities, and is expected to contribute to help build and grow the across the region. The Director of Legal will play a critical role across the product life cycle and will be a key advisor and enabler of successful product launches and commercialization at a regional and country level. The role will partner closely with colleagues across all functions within EMEA and with the Global Compliance and Legal team. In close collaboration with legal colleagues, this role is responsible for high quality and timely guidance in all areas of the business, including medical, commercial, market access, regulatory, distribution, communications, and will have subject matter expertise in areas such as competition law, regulatory law, and litigation, competition issues, customer facing activities, and country specific compliance issues. The role will actively lead and contribute to legal projects, issues, and priorities across the global legal and Compliance function.
Your primary areas of focus are:
- Provide tactical and operational legal and business insight on the commercial launch of argenx product candidates in Europe;
- From a legal and compliance perspective, review and advise on programs, initiatives, contracts, policies and training related to sales, marketing, market access, non-promotional education and scientific exchange;
- From a legal and compliance perspective, review and advise on promotional materials, sales training materials, product and disease-related communications and related materials; serve as a member of the relevant argenx Review Committees, along with medical and regulatory colleagues;
- From a legal and compliance perspective, review and advise on interactions with patients, healthcare professionals, institutions, payors, regulatory agencies and other external stakeholders;
- Identify training needs within the organization and develop and present training sessions on relevant laws and legal/business issues;
- Stay abreast of and communicate to the organization all significant pending and actual decisions, legislation and regulatory rulings that may affect the company in the area of commercial healthcare law;
- Draft and review proposed business/legal arrangements and contracts for the region;
- Provide advice and legal support on application and maintenance of all authorizations, permits, licenses, contracts and communication needed for local operations, including importation, manufacturing and marketing of products;
- Assist as necessary with corporate secretarial matters;
- Assess, supervise and manage external legal counsel as appropriate and in line with available budgets, ensuring advice is timely, cost-effective and consistently of high quality;
- Closely coordinate risk assessment, investigation, training and related activities with argenx Compliance personnel;
- Other duties as assigned.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Law Degree and license to practice law;
- Minimum 8+ years of relevant experience ideally in a law firm and in biotech/pharma, with at least 3 years of experience in roles serving as the legal business partner at an international level;
- Broad based knowledge of general commercial law and regulatory law impacting the pharmaceutical industry;
- First-rate judgment and business acumen, including understanding of business strategy and operations;
- Fluent in English and German; other language skills preferred;
- Experience in specialty markets, particularly rare diseases, preferred;
- Highly analytical; uses data to support decisions; can clearly communicate complex ideas in a simple way to diverse audiences;
