We are looking for an exceptional Privacy Counsel (c.3-6 PQE) to join our developing team, playing a vital role in a constantly innovating business that has recently listed and is on a mission to transform trust online. The role will provide an opportunity to input into a range of challenging, varied and sometimes ambiguous issues at the cutting edge of online trust. We’re looking for someone who is proactive and technically excellent and who is equally keen to roll up their sleeves and get stuck into the ‘day-to-day’.

Siting as part of the wider Trust & Transparency function, the privacy team is playing a crucial part in that mission and the right candidate will have scope to assist us shape the evolution of the team as we look to scale in line with the increasing expectations and scrutiny that goes hand in hand with the Trustpilot’s success.

In your role you will:

  • ensure that our product, services and data processing activities align with all key privacy requirements across all markets, focussing in particular on GDPR, the ePrivacy Directive, CCPA and other emerging US laws;
  • contribute to our global privacy strategy and drive high-profile and high-impact privacy initiatives across the business, supporting and advising key stakeholders on a broad range of privacy issues and making pragmatic risk-based decisions;
  • work closely with our product and engineering teams to ensure our services deliver trust through privacy by design;
  • draft and negotiate privacy provisions in a wide range of contracts, maintain and update policies and procedures relating to data privacy, maintain records of processing activities, prepare DPIAs, LIAs, work on international data transfer assessments, and respond to data subjects on DSARs, erasure requests, and other data subject rights requests;
  • assist with investigating, assessing and responding to any data incidents, including preparation of notices to affected data subjects and appropriate authorities;
  • help operationalise privacy and introduce automated, scalable solutions to improve management of privacy tickets, data records, PIAs and other privacy projects and processes;
  • help measure privacy maturity and compliance and report on key metrics and risk to senior stakeholders;
  • prepare and deliver privacy training and improve privacy awareness throughout the organisation;
  • respond to regulatory investigations and requests for information; and
  • monitor and analyse proposed, pending and new global privacy legislation and recommend changes necessary to ensure compliance.

We are looking for people with:

  • a right to practice law in either England & Wales, Scotland or Denmark;
  • around 3-6 year post-qualification experience in privacy, ideally partly in-house and in the technology sector;
  • experience operating at the intersection of product and privacy compliance, and comfortable collaborating with product and engineering teams to deliver pragmatic solutions;
  • experience advising and operating across multiple jurisdictions;
  • excellent drafting, negotiation and communication skills;
  • experience operationalizing privacy and reporting on key privacy metrics;
  • strong drive, proactivity, and the ability to get things done, bringing key stakeholders along with you;
  • a genuine interest in and understanding of how privacy applies and interacts with online technology;
  • a fun, dynamic and positive personality who remain calm under pressure;
  • an ability to work independently in a fast-paced, global organisation, whilst maintaining close contact with stakeholders across multiple locations; and
  • fluency in English.
