The Role
The Senior Legal Counsel is part of the Global Legal Department and reports to the Vice President & Assistant General Counsel. The Senior Legal Counsel will be responsible for providing corporate legal affairs support to Dun & Bradstreet Europe’s DACH business segment. The leader in this role will lead and develop a cross-regional team, balancing operational responsibilities and priorities with effective risk management, and working with internal stakeholders at all levels of the business to support Dun & Bradstreet Europe’s commercial activities and strategic initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Leads, manages, supports and develops corporate and commercial legal affairs team supporting D&B’s DACH region (incorporating Germany, Austria and Switzerland and forming part of D&B’s Central Europe (CE) region);
- Works closely with internal stakeholders including CE General Manager, CE Leadership team and senior business stakeholders to support strategic business initiatives and priorities;
- Acts as a business partner to regional commercial leaders, contributing to decision-making on business initiatives and providing advice to management on other significant legal issues affecting the local business;
- Keeps the business abreast of, and provides advice and counsel with respect to, relevant legal (other than privacy- and compliance-related) requirements and new developments;
- Collaborates with Global Compliance and Ethics colleagues in relation to regulatory requirements, including privacy and compliance matters;
- Supports commercial risk management for the DACH and CE region, working with commercial stakeholders and liaising with legal colleagues to define risk tolerance and manage escalations, exceptions and approvals;
- Provides leadership, direction, mentoring, development, and performance management for corporate legal affairs team across the region;
- Oversees, manages, supports and performs (as appropriate) regional corporate legal affairs team day-to-day work, namely: (1) providing commercial legal and general advice and support to local sales and product teams relating to commercial deal structuring, negotiating and drafting contracts with D&B’s customers’ attorneys and procurement professionals; (2) providing legal and general advice and support to DACH business units and other D&B internal teams to negotiate and document contracts with licensors and suppliers; (3) providing periodic training on relevant corporate and commercial legal topics to regional business units; (4) providing corporate and commercial legal and general advice and support to regional business units and other D&B internal teams relating to product development, product launches and other go-to-market activities;
- Collaborates with other regional legal leaders to support the implementation, rollout and adoption of new standard contracts and collateral documentation; contributes to and steers the development of new and refined contract forms and processes as needed for DACH markets;
- In coordination with Head of Litigation and Employment based in the U.S., assists with the management of personnel, pre-litigation and litigation matters in local markets;
- Collaborates closely with Dun & Bradstreet Corporate Secretary to manage the company secretarial function for regional subsidiaries.
About You
- Qualified solicitor or JD, ideally with 12 years PQE;
- Law firm and in-house (ideally sales organization) experience strongly preferred;
- Established record of leadership, preferably of a distributed team and preferably for an international organization; leading, aligning and motivating a distributed team; supporting multiple jurisdictions; effective delegation;
- Experience of managing through organizational change; collaborating with and influencing stakeholders and senior management; advising and influencing internal partners; handling and resourcing competing stakeholder demands and priorities;
- Negotiating complex commercial agreements, including cross-jurisdictional deals; expert understanding of contractual and intellectual property licensing principles;
- Strong analytical, oral and written communication, and problem solving skills;
- Working knowledge of local regulatory landscape; familiarity with data protection and privacy regulatory landscape;
- Fluency in German and English is required; working legal familiarity with other official languages of DACH region markets is an advantage;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite skills;
- Willingness and ability to travel periodically.
