PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

  • We are seeking an enthusiastic junior lawyer to join our Employment and Immigration team, with a specific focus on business immigration matters. Ideally, this position will be based in Manchester, working closely with the other dedicated immigration lawyer in the team. However, we are also open to considering candidates for a Leeds-based role;
  • As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to cultivate strong client relationships and play a significant role in handling client work. From the outset, you will be exposed to high-quality assignments, working with some of the most prominent clients in the UK;
  • At Addleshaw Goddard, we have implemented a flexible, hybrid working model that combines both office-based and remote work arrangements. This approach provides a balanced and adaptable work environment, which we anticipate will continue for the foreseeable future. While most work can be done remotely, occasional travel between our various UK offices may be necessary to facilitate effective collaboration and teamwork.

THE TEAM

Our Litigation Group brings together people with a diverse range of talent and experience. Organised into 4 practice areas: Commercial Disputes, Finance Litigation, Global investigations, and Employment & Immigration.

Our Employment and Immigration team advises both high-profile, top-end employers as well as work for key regional employers in our local markets. Our client base includes City institutions, FTSE 100 companies and major UK and international businesses. We handle a full range of employment and business immigration matters and provide a complete service dealing with all aspects of the employment relationship - from recruitment to retirement. Clients are at the centre of everything we do and we aim to work in partnership with them to achieve the best results. The service we provide is founded on the principles of expertise, commerciality, great relationships, and innovation which we believe are the cornerstones of a successful client/adviser partnership.

The team has a varied and interesting case load.

  • We help established and new UK based employers through the process of becoming a licensed sponsor along with advising on the issue of certificates of sponsorship to migrant workers and subsequent visa applications;
  • We provide guidance to clients on the duties of licensed sponsors and how to ensure compliance;
  • We undertake audits of immigration and HR systems to check for compliance with immigration laws and sponsorship duties - including in the form of a ‘mock audit';
  • We advise about long-term immigration requirements, including applications for indefinite leave to remain in the UK and naturalisation as a British citizen;
  • We advise on the immigration aspects of corporate transactions, including licence applications following transactions;
  • We advise high net worth individuals looking to make visa applications in connection with a move to the UK.

YOUR AREAS OF KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE

To be successful in this role, what are the:

  • Proficiency in handling various business immigration issues across a wide range of cases;
  • A solid technical understanding of immigration law;
  • Excellent drafting and communication skills;
  • A demonstrated ability to approach issues with a commercial mindset and common sense;
  • The capability to work effectively within tight deadlines and in a challenging environment, while also being a team player;
  • Self-motivation and a strong interest in actively participating in marketing and business development initiatives;
  • The capacity to provide active support for complex transactions, including coordinating and liaising with fee earners from other relevant disciplines, as necessary.
