We are looking for a motivated and experienced legal professional with expertise in the SaaS/technology industry to join our Data & Security Department. This is an exciting opportunity to join our global team and have a direct role in driving growth in a booming business as Legal Counsel, Vendor & Procurement

This role will require you to keep pace with a fast-moving communications company, while keeping your cool. It’s your responsibility to draft, negotiate and advise on a wide range of SaaS, IT, marketing and advisory contracts of third-party service providers (customer, vendor, and partners) of varying complexity and will involve extensive dynamic collaboration with members of sales, finance, marketing, operations, product, security, and executive teams. In addition, you are responsible to ensure that applicable data privacy aspects are properly checked and applied when required. You are an integral part of keeping MessageBird flying high and the go-to person who handles the legal side of procurement and vendor management for MessageBird worldwide. The role of Legal Counsel Vendor & Procurement requires strategic, legal, and operational skills, as well as the ability to work independently. This role will report to the Data & Security Officer located in the Netherlands with close day to day interaction with the wider department consisting of our Security, IT, and Compliance Teams.

What you’ll do:

  • Negotiate a wide range of commercial transactions, from vendor/supplier agreements to partnership deals and everything in between.
  • Advise internal stakeholders regarding key issues and risks in our contracts and ensure that our agreements reflect our high internal standards and guidelines.
  • Actively shape and develop the legal procurement and vendor management strategy to support our product offerings and sales strategy.
  • Engage with internal business clients to develop and enhance a streamlined, efficient, and scalable contracting process, including a contract management system.
  • Develop and maintain subject matter expertise in areas of data use and protection laws and advise on the impact of the same on our global business and strategic planning.
  • Proactively provide training and ongoing support to internal teams on sales and contractual matters, including developing internal playbooks, guardrails, and training.
  • Tackle anything else in the commercial and technology field that gets thrown your way as needed to support a fast-growing, dynamic, and innovative global company.
  • Over time, this role has the opportunity to evolve to support MessageBird’s data and privacy efforts. This would include, but not be limited to, contract reviews and negotiations with customers and telecom service suppliers.

What you’ll bring:

  • A law degree with 3 - 5 years procurement/technology experience in a legal in-house technology environment or internationally oriented law firm with particular focus negotiating SaaS contracts and terms. Prior background with an international SaaS/communications company is preferred.
  • A start-up mentality - a willingness to roll up your sleeves, clear blockers, think creatively, prioritize effectively, support the business, and get the job done.
  • Excellent negotiation, drafting, and communication skills with the ability to foster relationships and collaborate with internal clients and external key stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with contract and vendor management tools and processes, including implementation and training.
  • An understanding and appreciation of privacy, data protection, information security and related issues - with demonstrated ability to negotiate agreements on these issues. Direct experience overseeing privacy and security efforts strongly preferred.
  • Razor sharp organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and drive them through to completion within required timeframes.
  • Capacity to work autonomously and thrive in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills in English; additional languages are a plus.
  • Experience in the communications/telecoms industry is a plus.
