All about the role

As a Senior Legal Counsel, you’ll become part of the group Legal Commercial - Partners and Consumers team. We are looking for a driven person with a primary focus on handling consumer law and regulatory matters who is keen to also manage a strong team. This role will include providing pragmatic advice to the global JET business on marketing initiatives, consumer law implications of changes to our platform, and the fast changing requirements of platform regulation in our various markets.

There will be a key focus on important EU regulation like the Digital Services Act, the Omnibus Directive and other market-specific regulation such as the upcoming UK Online Safety Act. This is all critical to our continued growth as a business, and maintaining JET’s reputation as a brand that customers and partners trust.

These are some of the key ingredients for the role:

  • You’ll be a true stakeholder to the entire business and help advise on ad hoc queries on consumer law, platform regulation, pricing and marketing initiatives;
  • You’ll work on educating the business on consumer law and platform regulation in a practical way to bring this to life in the context of proposed developments to our website, mobile applications and overall customer experience;
  • You’ll act as a thought leader for consumer law and platform regulation matters within the Legal & Compliance function, sharing learnings and developments on a regular basis and building processes and self-service tooling where useful to create greater efficiency for your stakeholders;
  • You’ll lead cross-functional projects where needed in light of upcoming changes to law;
  • You may respond to consumer law enquiries from regulators, and supervise a process for the management of consumer litigation;
  • You’ll supervise the review of marketing initiatives, ensuring that advice is delivered in a pragmatic and consistent way across markets;
  • You’ll be part of a fantastic team of legal experts across multiple markets, but will also need to be comfortable working independently, applying specialised knowledge with minimal supervision and limited input from external experts;
  • As a good communicator, you’re able to answer questions and present information in an easy-to-understand way. Balancing legal risk with commerciality and pragmatism is key to success;
  • You will manage a small but impactful team, supporting them on day-to-day matters and their longer term development.

Can you deliver?

Here are the skills and experience we need from you:

  • Legal professional qualified in the UK, or another common law jurisdiction, or the Netherlands, with at least 6 years post-qualification experience in consumer and regulatory law, preferably from a combination of private practice and in-house roles;
  • A quick learner with a "can do" attitude and a strong academic record;
  • In depth knowledge of consumer law in EU markets. Experience with the Digital Services Act, and more generally platform regulation, are a plus but not essential; Knowledge of consumer law in other non-EU markets where JET has a presence (in particular the UK) is a plus;
  • Team Leadership experience and confidence working across multiple teams and geographies;
  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills and drafting skills. Additional languages are a bonus.
