The Team

This position provides candidates with a unique opportunity to be part of a growing team, work on cutting-edge issues in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment, collaborate with colleagues in EMEA legal, product, operation, compliance, and policy teams, especially in the EU and UK, to develop and improve our IP compliance and protection efforts and innovations, and execute and advance the IP strategy.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced senior IP attorney to work closely with internal stakeholders to conduct solid analysis, provide pragmatic and strategic advice. The ideal candidate must be highly collaborative, self-motivated, a strategic thinker, and intellectually curious.

Responsibilites

  • Be a reliable partner for EU/UK legal teams working with and business departments to provide specialist and strategic IP consultation, training and advice.
  • Counsel and support projects involving intellectual property, identify IP risks and provide business-focused, solution-oriented legal advice and guidance.
  • Stay on top of the changes and development of IP related legislation and provide timely insights to stakeholders. Implement IP related laws and regulations with both local market and global perspectives.
  • Support teams in establishing and updating IP governance-related policies, framework, internal SOP, and developing tools and processes for improving user/right owner experience while minimizing IPR risk in the EU and UK.
  • Support teams in optimizing the platform IP protection strategy based on legal requirements, industry practices, and business developments to minimize IP risk and enhance the industry's trust.
  • Provide cross-functional support for responding to, investigating, managing, and resolving high-impact IP disputes or related incidents.
  • Provide cross-functional support for requests to grant licences of TikTok marks in co-branded partnership and sponsorship deals to minimize IPR risk and enhance trust and revenue.
  • Work together with legal colleagues and the business team to manage external relationships with IP right holders, industry associations, law enforcement, and government regulators to build an IP protection reputation.
  • Instruct and supervise outside legal counsel on IP projects.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years experience as an IP lawyer working in a top law firm or an in-house legal team of relevant industries, responsible for IP consultation and/or IP governance.
  • Strong project management skills, with experience in collaborating with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Able to develop and execute project plans, independently monitor, and ensure timely delivery of project deliverables.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and effectively liaise with internal and external teams.
  • Demonstrated capacity for critical and forward-looking thinking. Ability to manage ambiguity and thrive in a fast-paced working environment. Entrepreneurial mindset, flexible, self-starting, hard-working, with a tolerance for working across multiple time zones.
  • Experience in E-commerce/social media IP protection will be a plus.
