Reporting directly to the SVP, Cyber & Technology Industry Practice Leader, your key responsibilities are:

  • Drafting manuscript policies and significant library endorsements. Demonstrated ability to: a) comprehend underwriters’/product head requests, b) work collaboratively with underwriters/product head, and c) understand and work through legal and drafting complexities. Participate with underwriters/product head as needed in major meetings with managers, brokers, and policyholders to negotiate coverage terms;
  • Review manuscript policy and endorsement wording proposed by external parties (ie. brokers, underlying/coinsurance carriers, MGA’s, etc.). Review against an established and evolving set of standards. Provide product head and underwriters with analysis of various provisions and provide general comparisons documents for field use;
  • Product development and endorsement libraries. Draft new or revised endorsements, policies, ancillary documents and marketing materials. Produce high-quality products which are responsive to underwriter and competitive marketplace needs that are in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Provide legal guidance with regard to product use and related regulatory issues;
  • Regulatory and Compliance counselling. Monitor Cyber regulatory, insurance and news developments, on a worldwide basis. Advise COG Cyber management on the Cyber developments. Where applicable, draft, or counsel the team on the drafting of major endorsements addressing Cyber developments. Assist in addressing regulatory inquiries and educate insurance regulators on Cyber related policy provisions;
  • Counselling. Train Underwriters on Cyber developments. Assist Cyber with the marketing of Cyber product, in particular, in the form of panel discussions, white papers, and presentations. Serve as liaison to the lead Cyber personnel with the major brokers. Provide technical training on regulatory, case law, and coverage developments. Maintain client confidence. Maintain consistency in drafting. Participate in underwriting meetings with clients, staff meetings, broker meetings and similar forums;
  • Internal Guidance. Serve as an internal resource, for the entire organization, with respect to:
    • Data security and security incident response, including regulatory requirements and investigations with respect to each;
    • Data localization issues;
    • Cloud issues, including service provider and vendor contract matters;
    • The monitoring and advice on the continued evolution of global privacy rules;
    • The monitoring and advice on the use of insured data for underwriting and marketing;
    • The monitoring and advice on requests by regulators for insured data;
    • Trends, headlines, regulatory developments.

Required skills & experience:

  • Law degree with proven strength in policy drafting;
  • Substantial experience with regulatory, statutory and case law in the area of Privacy/Cyber Liability;
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and prioritize;
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to build positive collaborative relationships both within and across functional lines;
  • Insurance industry knowledge;
  • Clear ability to understand business needs and provide consultation that is compliant, but helps to meet business goals.
