Job description

The successful candidate will be involved in the legal aspects of the implementation and coordination of cutting-edge projects of the national initiative Swiss Personalized Health Network (SPHN), which aims at making health-related data interoperable and shareable for research in Switzerland. He/she will also contribute to the Institute’s legal and contractual activities, particularly in matters of personal data protection.

Job tasks

• Negotiate, draft and review multi-party agreements for data-driven medicine research;
• Provide legal advice and support for day-to-day operations to ensure secure IT infrastructure of biomedical projects;
• Assist the SIB Data Protection Officer in his tasks, for example managing the register of processing activities, providing support to employees/researchers, providing training, and coordinating the SIB Data Protection and Security Board (monitoring of objectives defined, liaison with external consultants, etc.);
• Draft and monitor the implementation of internal policies and regulations;
• Perform legal research in the fields of medical research, personal data protection, regulation of medical devices as well as related to business, labor, and administrative law;
• Ensure the proper administrative management of the Legal and Technology Transfer Office, in particular, electronic and physical management of contracts, follow-up of legal and contractual deadlines, etc.;
• Provide support in the management of, and relations with, external legal counsels.

Profile requirements

• Education and expertise;
• Degree from a Swiss University, specialization in data protection law;
• Excellent knowledge of Swiss and European legislation on data protection and research involving humans;
• Good knowledge of intellectual property law in general; regulatory or compliance field;
• Excellent level of written and spoken English, good knowledge in French and German (an asset).

Experience

• Experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex agreements involving numerous parties, particularly in the field of medical research and technology transfer would be an asset;
• Experience in data protection, especially in writing data protection and security policies;
• Minimum 3 years of experience as Legal Officer.
