The Team

We are seeking a mid-level lawyer to join our ecommerce legal team and support our rapidly growing ecommerce business. The ecommerce legal team supports diverse, cross functional, and multi-jurisdictional initiatives across the TikTok ecommerce business in the UK and Europe. The Role

You will bring your bias for action, strong ownership, energy and enthusiasm to respond quickly to a business that is scaling fast.

You will have experience advising consumer facing digital platforms in the UK or Europe, ideally with a focus on ecommerce, retail and online marketplaces. You will understand how European law is developing to regulate such platforms, and have the versatility to advise across a broad range of commercial, regulatory, and product workstreams, involving customers, creators, merchants, and partners.

Responsibilities:

You will join a team that is dedicated to delivering excellent stakeholder service to achieve pragmatic solutions for the business. In doing so you will:

  • Provide expert advice and guidance on a wide range of operational, regulatory, commercial and product counselling ecommerce matters, with a focus on consumer protection, B2B and B2C engagement, product compliance, advertising, influencer marketing and intellectual property.
  • Support the business in understanding and complying with European legal and regulatory requirements when launching and operating new products, features and initiatives in the EU more broadly.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of TikTok ecommerce initiatives through review of consumer and business facing disclosures, policies, and terms and conditions, and support for feature development.
  • Review, draft, negotiate, and manage commercial agreements relevant to digital and ecommerce platforms.
  • You will contribute to template development, process improvement and internal training, identifying and resolving opportunities to simplify workflows and reduce contractual friction.
  • Partner closely with local and international stakeholders across the eCommerce business and in cross-functional teams such privacy and public policy, to deliver projects against short timeframes, setting appropriate priorities and managing legal risk.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Strong academic background, with legal qualifications in UK and/or Europe.
  • 5+ years of practice with experience of advising on platform liability, intellectual property, consumer protection and other regulatory requirements - all with an ecommerce focus. We would consider applicants with the right experience and skill-set outside of this range.
  • Knowledge of EU laws as they apply to the retail sector, and ecommerce platforms.
  • Solid experience in drafting and negotiation of agreements across the retail, creative, and advertising industries.
  • Strong documentation, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently on many different projects at once in a fast-paced environment.
  • Fluent in English - European language skills a bonus

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ideally some in-house experience in an international matrixed organisation.
  • eCommerce experience focused on platform liability, intellectual property, consumer protection and other regulatory requirements.
