We are distinguished by our on-the-ground presence in the world’s key financial markets and our strengths in handling complex cross-border work.
It’s not just about our global network of offices; it’s the global interconnectedness of the Firm that our people, and our clients, value most. We work well together across geographic and practice boundaries. It’s one of the reasons we attract and retain cross-border work. And why we attract a diverse group of people.
Our lawyers are globally minded, enterprising, collaborative and committed to excellence. Diversity is a core value of our Firm and it has been recognized with numerous awards and top rankings around the world. Our people represent 90 nationalities and speak 80 languages.
We are currently looking for an associate to join our Trade practice in our Brussels office. As well as excellent academic credentials, you should be bright and adaptable, with a genuine enthusiasm for the cut-and-thrust of litigation and contentious trade proceedings, an interest in the practical implications of customs law and procedures, and the drive and determination needed to thrive in a busy, fast-paced practice. A quick learner, you should be eager to improve and expand your understanding of new legal areas, and hungry for the opportunity to gain hands-on advocacy experience, before the European Commission, national authorities or Courts. You should demonstrate excellent drafting and communication skills, and a flair for the linguistic and technical challenge of constructing complex legal arguments. Strong organizational and time management skills will also be significant assets, enabling you to manage multiple workstreams and produce exceptional work to tight deadlines.
Proactive and self-motivated, you should be eager to take on responsibility, balancing independence of thought and action with a cooperative mindset that enables you to work effectively within teams of varying sizes.
White & Case is one of the leading global trade and customs practices. Our practice includes from; trade defence cases of all types for petitioners, exporters and users, sanctions advice and investigations, customs advice and litigation, trade and regulatory issues and WTO Dispute Settlement and advisory work. We have experts in all the key trade centres around the world and are ranked Band 1 in Chambers Global.
From the moment you join us, you will be working directly with - and learning from - partners within our group, and interacting with colleagues across the firm’s international offices and practice groups. A relatively non-hierarchical practice where tasks are allocated according to talent and specialization rather than seniority, we believe in giving all our associates significant responsibility, and providing them with direct client and court experience at the earliest possible opportunity. You would in particular have the opportunity to work closely with our office in Geneva, and London.
The work is demanding but rewarding, both in terms of the excellent opportunities for professional development and the satisfaction of contributing to your team’s success.
